Common SEO Mistakes to be Avoided:
SEO Mistake #1: Using Concentrated Anchor Texts
Anchor texts are great when you’re building backlinks to a page on your website. These anchor texts are what search engines use to determine how well your site should be ranked for related keywords and key phrases. When building backlinks to their websites, most people usually make their anchor texts too concentrated that it makes it look unnatural before search engines.
Avoid making your anchor texts too concentrated by using a variety of several others. Take for example you want your website to rank for keywords like “Play poker online”, you should not only use this phrase as your anchor texts all through but make it look natural by diluting the anchor text. Then something like “Online poker site” or “poker game online” can come in.
You can use as many other versions as you like, but the most important thing is to make it look natural while you still try to rank for your main keyword “online Poker”.
SEO Mistake #2: Building Links to Home Page
Another SEO mistake people make is building links to the homepage all through. You want Google to feel that other sites are passing a vote of confidence on yours by building these backlinks and the last thing you want is to get banned in the process. Building links to your home page alone tells Google that you’re not getting the links in a natural way.
You should let the larger percentage of your links point to other inner pages in your website and not just the home page alone. This way you will appear natural in front of search engine sites and gain good rankings in return.
To make it even more worthwhile, you should let only 20% of your backlinks or less point to the home page while the rest point to other inner pages on your website.
SEO Mistake #3: Irregularity in Link Building
Since link building is the most important thing in SEO, we focus on doing it well for our websites in order to increase the rankings of the website on search engines. There are two major approaches to link building which are fast and furious or slow and steady. If you ask any SEO expert, they’ll always prefer to choose slow and steady over fast and furious. While both of them will work well for you if done the right way, slow and steady will always look more natural and this is why: with slow and steady, you will not have to worry over not being able to keep up with the pace at which you’re building links for your website but with fast and furious, if there are any irregularities in the link building process, search engine sites will start suspecting your site.
This will make you vulnerable to losing your rankings as a result of being penalized by search engine sites.
